Network compatibility and system requirements

EndNote libraries can be accessed on a network – including networks with Macintosh and Windows workstations. Multiple users on a network can access an EndNote library simultaneously in read-only mode. This allows users to search for references, cite them in their papers and create bibliographies. EndNote does not allow multiple users on a network to edit a single library at the same time.

Installation and deployment

On Windows networks, EndNote can be deployed with MSI installer technology using scripting or via Group Policy.

What you need:

EndNote libraries are cross-platform compatible. Following the EndNote end user license agreement, this means:

  • Individuals who purchase a single user license can install EndNote on up to three computers for their personal use.
  • Sharing a license with other users is not allowed under the individual license agreement.
  • Those computers can be any combination of Mac and Windows machines.
  • By creating or logging into an EndNote online account (under preferences > Sync), that individual can sync their library across all three computers, as well as access it through EndNote online and the iPad app.

CCH ProSystem fx Engagement 2019 supports Adobe® Acrobat® Standard, Professional, and Reader®, versions 11 (support will discontinued after December 31st, 2019), DC, 2017, and 2020. However, editing and Engagement functionality is only available with Adobe® Acrobat® Standard or Professional.
The 'Protected Mode' must be turned off in Adobe® Acrobat® Standard or Professional to use Engagement functionality, such as: tickmark definitions, workpaper notes, and workpaper references, By default, 'Protected Mode' is on. Engagement will detect this setting and prompt you to disable it.

  • If you select Yes, Protected Mode is turned off and the workpaper is opened with Engagement functionality in place.
  • If you select No, the workpaper opens in Protected Mode, and Engagement functionality is disabled.

To manually set Adobe® Acrobat® Standard or Professional, versions 11, DC, 2017, or 2020, to always open with Protected Mode turned off, do the following:

  2. Select Edit > Preferences > General.
    • Note: In Adobe® Acrobat® DC or 2017 or 2020: Select Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced).
  3. Uncheck the Enable Protected Mode at startup option.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Restart Adobe® Acrobat®.
